Ingredients

2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 cup marinara sauce

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and black pepper to taste

4 whole-wheat pita bread

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Place them in a heated skillet with a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through and no longer pink. Remove from heat and let them cool slightly before slicing them thinly.

Assemble the Pita Melts: Take each whole-wheat pita and cut them in half to create pockets. Open each pocket gently. You'll want to stuff them with the chicken and sauce mixture.

Stuff the Pitas: Spoon a generous amount of marinara sauce into each pita half. Add sliced chicken on top and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Place the stuffed pitas on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle a little olive oil over them for added flavor and crunch. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the pitas are heated through.

Garnish and Serve: Remove the pita melts from the oven. Garnish with fresh basil leaves for a burst of flavor. Serve hot and enjoy!
