Ingredients

1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/2 cup slivered almonds, toasted

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Juice of 1 lemon

Zest of 1 lemon

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Blanch the Green Beans: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 3-4 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and immediately transfer to a bowl of ice water to stop cooking. Let cool for about 5 minutes, then drain again and set aside.

Toast the Almonds: In a dry skillet over medium heat, add the slivered almonds. Toast for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently until golden and fragrant. Be careful not to burn them. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Prepare the Garlic Butter Sauce: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant and turns light golden, but not brown.

Combine Green Beans and Sauce: Add the blanched green beans to the skillet, tossing them in the garlic butter mixture until evenly coated. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the beans are warmed through.

Finish the Dish: Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in the lemon juice, lemon zest, toasted almonds, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss gently to combine all ingredients.

Serve and Garnish: Transfer the garlic butter green beans with almonds to a serving platter. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley for a pop of color and a fresh flavor. Enjoy immediately!
